The Story of Eco Fabrics

At Liz Alig we begin our design process with recycled, hand woven, or organic fabrics. Using fabrics with traditional roots give ownership to the garments that producers are making because they are celebrating a cultural heritage. Some of our favorite techniques are hand woven Guatemalan ikat and hand embroidery that traditionally are part of their native dress so we can find these textiles to recycle...Indian hand blocking and hand woven cotton...Hand woven raw silk that is traditionally tie dyed in Cambodia...recycled cotton fibers woven in Bangladesh...and Ghanan batik on recycled sheets. Another favorite is the hand knitted garments from Nepal made by hand woven wool, silk, and banana fiber.
