Organic Cotton from India
We just got in some great new garments from Assisi Garments in India. They are not only made from 100% organic cotton but also are produced ethically by fair trade groups from the farmer who grows the cotton to the seamstress who sews the garment.
Here is a little about the production process as detailed by Assisi Garments Website:
First, the purest organic and Fairtrade cotton is procured from farmers; The sourced cotton is certified on GOTS and by FLO-CERT.
In compliance with internationally laid down quality standards, we produce Fairtrade and organic cotton yarn. The yarn is spun with the latest spinning machines imported from Germany, Switzerland and Japan.
The yarn is then converted into a wide range of fabrics like Single Jersey, Rib, Interlock, Fleece, Pique, Stripe, Vellore, Terry, Lycra & Jacquard. We have the latest equipment that includes hi-tech German machines to produce the softest and finest fabrics soothing to the skin.
Dyeing & Processing
To comply with our commitment to the environment and the communities in which we operate, we produce only eco-friendly yarn and fabrics. Towards this, we use nature friendly and low impact dyes and chemicals which are GOTS certified.
We have the world-renowned machines to ensure that our fabrics are cut and stitched to utmost precision.
For adding value to the garments, printing & embroidery works are done. Besides screen printing and conventional screen printing, safe & earth friendly printing methods are adopted.
The garments go through a series of stringent checking procedures to make sure that they are without any defect. They are also made to pass through needle detectors to ensure that they are metal-free.
The garments are steam pressed to make them completely crease-free. Finally, the products are packed and made ready for shipment to the client's end.
